One of the most important things to us at SimilarWeb is to hear what the users’ opinion about our product is. With so many different thinking brains – I’m sure we can create the perfect add-on.

As the community grows, so does the number of the ideas users send us. The new version that we will soon be launching includes many of your ideas. Here are a few highlights for the newest version coming out soon:

-          When you surf in mini-mode, a click outside the side bar will
automatically close it (to reopen it, click on the small SimilarWeb
button).

-          Status Bar button can now be removed. Choose Options (on the top
left) -> Settings -> status bar.

-          Middle click on a result (whether it is through the side bar or through
the toolbar button) will open it in a new tab. This way you can easily
navigate between the similar sites and compare them.

-          More surprises coming up…

Do make your browsing even more effective, you can customize your own results and impact other users suggestions by voting and adding more similar sites that you know. Watch the following movie to see how to do it. Please notice that when you vote down for a site (by that you tell us that the site is not similar to the one you are browsing in), it will disappear from the sidebar and toolbar button.

I’m happy to tell you that we launched our new service TopSite.com, which helps you find the best site in each category in any language. The site is now experimental (beta version), and the results will get better in time.

Well, of course we have that option! And after a short explanation, David was enjoying SimilarWeb again. Then, it occurred to me that you might get a few tips while using our product.

The default of SimilarWeb is a side bar on the left of the screen, but you can customize it in the way that suits you the most. The following video will show you how to navigate between the different views of SimilarWeb.

To move SimilarWeb to the right side of your browser, choose options -> settings. Then choose “show the Firefox side bar on the right”.

To switch to Mini Mode press the “minimode” button. To get back to the side bar, press “expand”. As of now, the Mini Mode is only available on the left side of the screen.

If you wish to only use the toolbar button, press X on the right side of the add-on. The button has the same similar-sites functions (but you won’t be able to see the thumbnails of the sites, similar articles or buzz).

Remember that I told you about the Crunchies competition a few weeks ago? Well, it is almost over, and the competition is very tight. All you have to do in order to help us win is to click on: Vote for SimilarWeb and press on the “vote” button. If you wish to help us even more, you can vote for us daily, all the way till December 4^th.

The Crunchies is a yearly competition arranged by Techcrunch, divided to 2 parts. The first part (ending on December 4^th) helps Techcrunch to choose the finalists in each category. You nominate your favorite company, people or products for industry recognition. Then, after the top nominees are chosen for each category, users will be able to vote for their favorite competitor from each category.

This year we are running in the “Best Start-up for 2009” category. Next week, we will know if we received enough votes to enter the finals. And then, friends, we will need much more voting!

Yesterday, a new article called “Finding similar content on the web” was published at “VCcafe”. The article talks about a few services that suggest similar sites. Among the services you can find SimilarGroup. My more devoted readers already know that this is the site that gathers all of our technology services (SimilarWeb and SimilarSites).  Our technology is highly appreciated and the results are very satisfying. You can enter the article and read more about it.

To conclude, I promised you last time that I would tell you more about our new baby-addon “SimilarStumble”.

SimilarStumble is a toolbar button that was created to randomly suggest similar sites. It is placed right next to the URL box, and each time you enter a site – a similar site will be offered. This is a really nice tool to use if you are visiting cool sites, new ones and even your old favorites.

Remember the excitement every time your family gets bigger? All of the parties you throw, presents you deliver and the joy you feel?

That is about the joy we are feeling these days – we have expanded!

We have added 2 new add-ons to SimilarWeb’s family; Search Helper and SimilarStumble, who are now available on Mozilla’s add-ons. These two babies are an outcome of a lot of hard work and the whole team is celebrating. Today I would like to tell you about Search Helper.

Search Helper is a Firefox add-on that is simply meant to help you access Google’s outcomes much easier.  While accessing Google, the add-on will appear above the results. You can choose whether to open 3, 5 or all of the 10 results from Google’s first page. If you’ve left Google’s page, continued surfing and then decided that you wish to go back to the results page, you can review the results given by pressing  the Search Helper toolbar button (it is placed near the URL box).

Personally, this add-on helps me very much! Searching is much easier for me now. If you also wish to simplify your searching, you can download the add-on by clicking the link below.

I have some really good news! This week we launched the new site SimilarGroup.com. The site gathers along all of the sites using our search-technology. So far it includes similarweb.com and similarsites.com. Towards the launching all of us had a lot of hard work, but as I usually say –hard work pays! You are all welcome to visit the new site. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Did you know that you can share our add-on through Mozilla’s site? At our page on Mozilla, there is a share-this-addon button. You can use it to help us spread our add-on through Digg, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.

If you haven’t visited SimilarSites.com Blog yet, I really suggest you to do so. One a week I analyzed some of similar sites’ results, announce which ones are the best, and recommend some useful sites.

Today I wish to talk about you, our users. In my opinion, a community is an inseparable part of a good product. That’s why I write to you every week; Keep in touch with some of you, and am constantly looking for mentions about us on the web. Usually I communicate with users through Twitter, where I can respond to you on real-time. I’m very excited every time someone tweets about us, and usually I tweet them back “thank you”.
